Maple Leaves

I love to see the maple trees blossom in spring.  They are beautiful, although my fondest memories of my New England childhood are of maple syrup.

Maples surely don't bring back memories of bassoons, but I recently read that all nonsynthetic bassoons are made of maple. They are colored in various shades of brown and black, but maple is always the material.  The synthetic ones are made of polypropylene.  These are most commonly used for students, because of their durability.  Parents may accept the necessity of replacing bassoon reeds, but instruments are a different story.  Remembering how our dog mangled my daughter's clarinet, I can relate!

  1. I see many silver maples near here. I love it when the sun hits them and they look like the leaves are made of aluminum foil.
