This post brought to you by Flood Wood Care. All opinions are 100% mine.

When the sun-drenched days of my childhood became a bit too warm, we loved to retreat to my grandparents' front porch. My grandmother would bring us a pitcher of homemade lemonade and an endless supply of of freshly baked cookies. Life was always good at their house.   There was time to relax and even drop-by visitors were invited to "sit a spell" and share a meal.

I was an adult before I realized that they were far from rich.  Their willingness to invest time in their home, however, made it far more appealing than the residences of more wealthy neighbors.  My grandmother braided rugs, tended extensive flower beds and kept the interior spotless.  My grandfather built furniture and kept the exterior in good repair.   Their attention to detail created a haven of beauty and tranquility for themselves and their visitors.

When I acquired my first home, I began to appreciate the time involved in maintaining a home.   With family, work and education placing considerable demands on my time, I couldn't afford to waste time or money on home maintenance products that didn't produce spectacular results.   I knew how to care for the interior's hardwood floors, but was less certain how to restore the exterior's porch, fence and wooden swing.  In the end, I learned through trial and error - a method that I don't recommend to anyone.  Thankfully, today there's a better way.
